new years (Poem)

when 2000 came, i was worried about y2k
but at the new year's party with my family the fear went away
nobody liked the music i tried to put on
(i don't blame them, i no longer like that music)
the adults all got drunk and had a fight
the party ended early

when 2001 came, i was hanging out with my cousins
we got in a fight over something
this was when staying up late was still special to me
but i went to bed at 9 or 10
i didn't bother looking at the clock

the next 10 new year's were non-events

every new year
it's taken at least a month
to get used to writing the new year on forms and checks and such
this year, i got it down within a week
